Why There’s a Photograph of My 20-Year-Old Self in My Journal

Midlife changes

We’re often told to think back to what we loved at age seven or eight to reconnect with ourselves. But what if there’s a different photograph, a different age, that captures something more useful? This week I’m talking about finding the version of yourself who had fire in your eyes before life dulled it down, and why I’m using a photograph of my 20-year-old self as a kind of talisman.

Thank you for your Friday inspiration . I think my younger self believed in being myself as an artist in a very conservative world. I also believed that being myself was more important than fitting in . I still have days when I believe where that glimmer of the past comes back. The days we believe in who we are and who we were are so brilliant. (Image from my journal)

Thank you so much for sharing. I grew up in a very authoritarian household and was told how I was to be. I still say I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. Finding a picture of myself that exudes joy and self determination is my goal. I will have a long look at it and hope to bring the spark forward. Jane, you are a remarkable person.

Respectfully I think you were a bit of a renegade back then how marvelous. Keep your shine Jane!
