What’s Inside
Everything you need to explore botanical printing with beautiful, defined results - the fabric is already prepared so you can begin straight away.
The making materials:
- Mordanted vintage cotton fabric - part of a reclaimed 1940s hotel sheet, prepared with alum and iron for crisp, vibrant prints
- Recycled cotton yarn for binding your bundle
- Step-by-step instruction sheet
The vintage sheets have been carefully reclaimed, cutting around worn areas. Each piece is 50cm wide and at least 90cm long - enough to make the plaited cording and a small bag from November’s tutorial. You may find occasional rust marks or old mending - these add character and often create interesting effects in the printing.
The first bundles will include the original laundry marks and labels which you can incorporate into your work.
Everything comes packaged in a glassine envelope - practical, plastic-free and lovely to handle.

- A steamer, or a pan with lid and sieve (kept just for dyeing)
- Rubber gloves
- Fresh leaves, flowers, or other plant materials for printing
These aren’t included as most people have them already, or prefer to gather their own materials.
What You Can Make
This kit gives you enough prepared fabric to experiment with different plant materials and techniques. You can keep it as a single piece or divide into two. Try simple leaf prints first, then explore more complex bundling methods as your confidence grows. The alum and iron mordanting means your colours will be much more vibrant and defined than tea-tannin or alum alternatives.
Perfect for anyone joining Threaded in November, especially if you want to focus on the making rather than the chemistry of mordanting.
