Plant dyed tote bag

These organic cotton canvas tote bags are part of my local dyes project and are dyed with the exhaust dye pots, giving soft colours that are perfect for embellishing.

Plant dyeing is a slow process. First the flowers and leaves are gathered and simmered for a few hours and steeped overnight to release as much colour as possible into the dye pot. The bags were washed, scoured and mordanted with bramble leaves, and then dyed, cured, washed in an eco detergent, dried, pressed and packaged.

There are two colour ways, a yellow from tansy and a grey where dock leaves were modified after dyeing with iron water.

The finish on the bags is soft and subtly shaded - like a well worn pair of jeans, the colour can be uneven in areas.

They can be washed on a low temperature setting in a washing machine or by hand with non bio eco detergent - do not use detergents that might strip the colour.
