This is so helpful - thank you! I rarely get colds/flu and I have been sick 3 times already this year. Your post helped me look at what could be the underlying issue or fear. I was able to figure out what fear I believe it is tied to and how to employ a similar set of actions to help me work through it. I am incredibly grateful. ?

In reply to Rachael Wilson
Thanks Rachael - I must say that I am very much looking forward to getting out of my walking boots at some point soon, even if just for evening things - I have 3D printed insoles that can be moved from one shoe to another but they have to be pretty flat/enclosed really. I never really wore heels but a little bit of a lift would be good! J x

I am SO grateful that you made this film & post. When I worked as a Surgical Orthopedic Physician's Assistant (I don't know if there is an equivalent in UK/Europe, anywhere but the States) over & over & over, I would be doing their Emergency room exam or pre-operative history and physical or admitting to the hospital history & physical & they would say, "Just the other day I said, 'Give me a BREAK!!'" And I would reply, "Next time ask for a vacation please." They would blow out their ankles, even one of the OB/GYNs blew her's out in the hospital parking lot, black ice...rushing to get into the hospital for a delivery....In the office, one day there was a young woman who had recently moved to Boston, She had sprained BOTH her ankles! I had worked in athletic training and sports medicine with Big 10 athletes and hadn't seen anyone sprain both ankles within a few days. I looked at her as a pair of crutches wasn't going to work. "Are you feeling like you don't have a leg to stand on here?" I wasn't being cheeky, it was just so statistically significant. She really needed to get some solid grounding, no pun intended. Years later I became intrigued by integrative/complimentary medicine and how limited the Western medical model is, basically how much we didn't/don't know, still! That was way back in the '80s-early '90s. Thrilled you are recovering! And side note about steroids, frequently orthopedists will inject dexamethasone along tendon sheaths for chronic inflammation or bursitis. One day I commented to the surgeon, "What is that white plastic looking stuff?" It was solidified cortico-steroid...now a definite irritant to the tendon/shealth/a foreign body. And then when we had a patient who needed a liver transplant from the anti-inflammatories we had prescribed (this was before ibuprofen and naprosyn went OTC in the States.) Ever since then I became highly, highly, highly aware that what we "do" in the name of healing can actually destroy beyond what are casually given as "low risk" interventions. Orthopedics was highly rewarding in general because you help put people back together again, send to physical therapy for rehabilitation and if all goes well you never see them again (at least not in the clinic/ER/hospital.)

Really interesting video this week. I'm glad you are feeling better and on the way to recovery. I know we don't understand how our minds and bodies work together. My anxiety about leaving my house causes me to get physically ill, so bad last time that I discussed it with my therapist. We looked at why I found leaving home so fearful, and that led back to my childhood. Not that anything scary happened, but my parents' expectations of how I must look when leaving the house seem to be what causes my anxiety.

Dear Jane I so resonated with you as 18 months ago exactly the same happened to me , I also kept on thinking I’d pulled something until l just couldn’t ! I had shock treatment eventually and it was painful but did help . A game changer for me has been discovering FitFlop sandals /trainers , I find when I go back to my normal shoes the pain starts pulling again ( I have no vested interest in FitFlops) but something that has helped me ! It’s so debilitating to be in constant pain and made me feel so old , but the relief and pleasure when you can walk instead of hobbling is immense .
I’m so sorry about your dad I lost my mum in December too .
Thank you for sharing , love Rachael xxx
